The evaluation of evidence for exponentially distributed data

چکیده
At present, likelihood ratios for two-level models are determined with the use of a normal kernel estimation procedure when the between-group distribution is thought to be non-normal. An extension is described for a two-level model in which the between-group distribution is very positively skewed and an exponential distribution may be thought to represent a good model. The theoretical likelihood ratio is derived. A likelihood ratio based on a biweight kernel with an adaptation at the boundary is developed. The performance of this kernel is compared alongside those of normal kernels and normal and exponential parametric models. A comparison of performance is made for simulated data where results may be compared with those of theory, using the theoretical model, as the true ∗School of Mathematics, King’s Buildings, The University of Edinburgh, Mayfield Road, Edinburgh, EH9 3JZ; e-mail: [email protected]; tel: +44(0) 131 650 4877; fax: +44(0) 131 650 6553.

Analysis of two production inventory systems with buffer, retrials and different production rates
This paper considers the comparison of two ðs; SÞ production inventory systems with retrials of unsatisfied customers. The time for producing and adding each item to the inventory is exponentially distributed with rate b. However, a production rate ab higher than b is used at the beginning of the production. The higher production rate will reduce customers’ loss when inventory level appro...
متن کاملSemi-analytical Solution for Time-dependent Creep Analysis of Rotating Cylinders Made of Anisotropic Exponentially Graded Material (EGM)
In the present paper, time dependent creep behavior of hollow circular rotating cylinders made of exponentially graded material (EGM) is investigated. Loading is composed of an internal pressure, a distributed temperature field due to steady state heat conduction with convective boundary condition and a centrifugal body force. All the material properties are assumed to be exponentially graded a...
متن کاملEconomic design of Hotelling’s T2 control chart on the presence of fixed sampling rate and exponentially assignable causes
Control charts are extensively used in manufacturing contexts to monitor production processes. This article illustrates economical design of a variable sample size and control limit Hotelling’s T2 control chart based on a novel cost model when occurrence times of the assignable causes are exponentially distributed. The proposed nonlinear cost model is an extension of Duncan’s (J Am Stat ...
متن کاملNetwork Location Problem with Stochastic and Uniformly Distributed Demands
This paper investigates the network location problem for single-server facilities that are subject to congestion. In each network edge, customers are uniformly distributed along the edge and their requests for service are assumed to be generated according to a Poisson process. A number of facilities are to be selected from a number of candidate sites and a single server is located at each facil...
متن کاملQueueing Inventory System in a Two-level Supply Chain with One-for-One Ordering Policy
Consider a two-level inventory system consisting of one supplier and one retailer. The retailer faces a Poisson demand with a known rate and applies base stock (one-for-one ordering) policy. That is, his inventory position is set to a pre-determined level, so the demand pattern is transferred exactly to the supplier. The supplier has an inventory system and a service unit with exponentially dis...
متن کاملGenerating Antithetic Random Variates in Simulation of a Replacement Process by Rejection Method
When the times between renewals in a renewal process are not exponentially distributed, simulation can become a viable method of analysis. The renewal function is estimated through simulation for a renewal process simulation for a renewal process with gamma distributed renewal times and the shape parameter a > 1. Gamma random deviates will be generated by means of the so called Acceptance Rejec...
